A Citizen Appalled

I watch the world shift and crumble all around me
A treacherous path lay ahead
I tremble
I see the leaders of a once great nation
falter and stumble...
And I wonder, who will heal this crevice, this wound?
I look for a leader with honor, with valor
I find none.
My eyes shift from the wreckage of democracy gone awry
Now focusing upon the subtle strengths of
a woman determined,
a woman focused,
a citizen appalled.

Very nicely put. I like it!

Like it, like it. Not sure I understand the last line. You seem to be taking us someplace and then it comes abruptly to a stop. Is that the point? Help me out here?

mandy-Thanks!

jessica- Thank you much!

pannwriter- Thank you...Yes, I do stop rather abruptly, I think because I feel like shift in consciousness was equally abrupt as well as my abandonment of idealistic hope. The last line simply infers that rather than looking outwardly-to the politicians, to "fix" the wrongs that I see around me, I am now focusing on what I can do to make my world a better place for everyone.

Well done. I think too many feel left out in the cold at this time and looking inward is the best route, always has been.
